Whoa Whoa Whoa..... It's September already???? Oh where does the time go? I guess when working like busy little bees time flies right on by. We've been focusing so much on the physical aspect of getting our project done the virtual aspect has been put on the wayside. But, ALAS! Here I am to share a little bit with you. I will share our latest progress in the course of a few posts.Things are moving along great! The roof is done. Let me say that again the roof is DONE! We met our September 1st goal and beat the rain. There's has been a lot of stress revolved around getting this roof on. Neither of us are roofers and have little experience on the matter... especially a metal roof. Timing has been crucial as well. The weather usually starts to change around this time of year and we wanted to make sure the house was protected before the gloomy weather arrives. We've also had some trying times with our local "Big Orange Box" dept. store and some of their employees knowing how to place an order efficiently. But fortunately they have a very friendly and helpful asst. manager that has helped us get everything squared away. Although it took many phones calls and trips to the store we have just about everything we need from them. Except for the 2 doors which we returned due to damage. Those will hopefully come in mint condition by Wednesday.
Back to the roof being done. Aside from just the stress of getting it done and anxiety of walking around on a steep roof, the process went along smoothly. We can not say thank enough times.......THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, to our land lord Chris Frankfurth for letting us use his forklift! We have been so fortunate this whole time to the use of a forklift during our project. If you are ever building something and have the use of a forklift USE IT! It puts scaffolding out of style and makes the job so much easier. I honestly don't know what we would have done and would be doing now without it. Words really cannot express the gratitude that we feel for having this.
This weekend we started wrapping the house with house wrap and have 3 windows inststalled. It's really starting to look like a tiny house.
It's so exciting watching this process evolve. It's kind of like watching a little kid grow up. You get excited when the caulking goes on the window and the screw goes in. and you laugh with joy because the stove pipe flashing was installed correctly. And you heart goes pitter-patter as you step back, watch this vacant green trailer turn into a tiny home.
Going Back a Few Weeks.....
As stated before our ridge beam above the loft is a solid steal beam as opposed to wood. Because of this we have to make sure this beam is well insulated from all directions, to make sure it does not attract cold air from the outside. We used spray foam insulation and evenly distributed it all across the ridge beam and inside both ends as far as it could go. It will also be fully insulated from inside the house.

The Roof Panels
We had originally planned to use the classic Tar Paper for our roof underlayement. When we were shopping for it, we stumbled upon this stuff; GAF TIGER PAW Roof Deck Protection.
It didn't take but a few moments for us to realize this is the better way to go. I'm not going to write to much about here. But if you want to know more or are building your own home, I highly reccommend you check this product out. www.gaf.com
It's high quality, very durable and has a life time warranty.
It was also relatively easy to apply.
Oh man, this is where I get nervous and have to remind myself to breathe. Oh Please Don't Slip!
Hand Seamers: A very handy tool when working with a metal roof or any other kind of sheet metal
Metal roofing screw
Flashing screwed in with 1/2 inch Lath Screws
corner flashing where the 2 roofs meet.
This is what each panel of the roof looks like.
Measuring the panels and making any necessary cuts. Precision is key here.
Each panel was cut and placed one by one with much care.
